Detection of Chlamydia trachomatis endocervical infections by ligase chain reaction versus ACCESS Chlamydia antigen assay.
Ligase chain reaction (LCR) was compared with ACCESS immunoassay for detection of chlamydial infections in females. Despite efforts to improve ACCESS performance by evaluation of specimens that were in the test performance "grey zone," LCR remained more sensitive and was less expensive to perform. ACCESS had a sensitivity of 83.9%, a specificity of 99.7%, a positive predictive value of 96.3%, a...
متن کاملDetection of Chlamydia Trachomatis Infection in Female Partners of Infertile Couples
Background The prevalence of infertility is about 10-15% among the couples overally. Several factors can affect fertility ability of men and women. Chlamydia is a non-motile gram negative obligatory interacellular pathogenic organism. It can cause infections in females as cervicitis, urethritis, endometritis, pelvic inflammatory disease also prostatitis and epidydidimitis in male as well. The a...
متن کاملGlycogen assay for diagnosis of female genital Chlamydia trachomatis infection.
Chlamydia trachomatis can synthesize glycogen at various stages in its developmental cycle. The glycogen content of female genital epithelial cells was detected by anthrone, and the results were compared with those from PCR. A total of 320 cervical samples were examined. Of 92 specimens that were positive by PCR, 78 were positive and 14 were negative by the glycogen assay. Of 228 specimens that...
متن کاملAntigen detection assay for identification of Penicillium marneffei infection.
Two recently produced monoclonal antibodies were used to develop an antigen capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for rapid diagnosis of Penicillium marneffei. The method was evaluated with 53 patients with culture-confirmed penicilliosis and 240 controls. The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of the ELISA were 92.45, 97.5, and 96.59%, respectively.

An amplification polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for the direct detection of Chlamydia trachomatis in urethral and endocervical swab specimens from symptomatic and asymptomatic women and men were compared to standard culture technique. During 6 months, 300 endocervical swab specimens from 205 asymptomatic women (64.4%) and 95 symptomatic women (31.6%), and 187 urethral swab specime...
